Well, there are pros and cons to using the IP addy. Either way should be fine in 95% of the cases. The real only advantage of the domain is it is easier to remember than a bunch of numbers.
Your email settings will work for some time whie the DNS propogates. That's why I told you to check both accounts in the mean time. Some email will get sent to the new address, and some to the old address until the DNS is completed.
