What exactly is the 'issue' ? Are you just unable to send out emails ?
I'm using 2.1.5 + PHPsuexec + PHP mail and apart from now recieving "Mail delivery failed: returning message to sender" messages in my Inbox for expired email addresses, everything seems to run just fine.
