LDAP/Xoops World Domination ;)

OK, so some friends and I have some cool plans to take over the world [giggle] but apparently our best laid plan is thwarted by our complete lack of understanding when it comes to LDAP. I've been running a dedi for a while now and have been in web design for a very long time but LDAP never really fit into anything I've worked on. So needless to say I'm practically a newbie again and now I'm flusterd b/c I have no idea what I'm doing.

I've got some Xoops sites to set up and ideally we want to use LDAP to organize our users/groups for the sites. There's a xoops LDAP module floating around but it doesn't give any guidance on how to actually set up an LDAP server. Anyone have any experience in this that wouldn't mind giving this girl a little guidance? I feel like I've just discovered the net all over again reading over all the docs for this stuff. I'm not really sure where to start. Thanks for any help you guys can give.
