The problem with the wording in the third option is you are not updating your (my) nameservers at all. You are telling the registrar what to send to the owner of the top level domain (in my case com, owned by Network Solutions) to use as the authoritative name server for your secondary domain. It then updates the rootserver as to who has the record of authority for your domain (basically).
So you never update your, mine, or any other nameserver. All you do it tell your registrar that the name servers given to you by surpass is authoritative for your domain. The wording on the third option is not correct technically or otherwise. This is the point of confusion.

removed - your comment was not necessary. I have not been worked up since my first post, and I subsequently pointed out my own confusion and why.

Haugland - your suggested wording is probably the best I can think of.

Geoff - I wonder if you are confused now. I am moving an existing domain that is hosted elsewhere. I most certainly must update my registrar's information of the authoritative nameservers, or nothing will be routed to my new host. Worse yet, once my old host removes the entry from their nameserver and other name servers cache expires no one will not be able to do look-ups for my domain at all.
