Sorry for another noob question.

cpanel offers me to put my new directory for the domain in /public_html/{dir name} but doesn't that also mean I can surf to it as a sub directory?

And what would be the problem if I put the sub domain in a folder off of the home Called /Subdomains/{dir name}... now that it isn't a directory under public_html will there be a problem? Can I still password protect the whole subdomain? and have it work? Can I install things like joomla in the subdomain that is password protected? so only people with a password can surf the newly created joomla website?

Ahh, a sunny day here. and not too many of those happen in march. I better get outside... and pretend I am not a noob.
