stoens,
The issue on pass78 was with the dns zone files and dns service. On a shared server there could be ~500-700+ different zones on for the dns server to interpret and process (one zone file for each domain). For some odd reason the dns server was having a problem loading the amount of zone files and the dns server (bind) had to be reinstalled and the server needed to be rebooted. The chances on this happening on a dedicated server is very low because in many cases you will not have 500-700+ domains such as that we have on some reseller servers.
FYI our reseller servers have 30-45 clients. Those clients can host unlimited domains. If each reseller had an average of 50 domains you do the math, you can think of these other domains as your neighbors. We all know how neighbors can be, some can maintain their lawn and their lot, some don't. Same thing with resellers.
The reseller environment is often the most volatile and is a hard transition for some smaller hosts. If the highest uptime is important then you then you should consider a more isolated solution such as dedicated. If you are already doing this then you are a step in the right direction.
