It's always a good idea to keep all scripts/software saved on your server updated to its current version as much as possible. Sometimes older version can have security holes that the developers of the script did not know of at the time, but were told by users of the script. So then they fix the problem and usually create new features to add on to the newer version for you to download and use. This is one good reason why keeping your WHMCS or any other script updated.
In the tutorial below I will show you how you can easily update your current version of WHMCS to a newer version.
First log into your WHMCS admin panel to see if your current version is the latest one or not. You can find this information in the lower left hand corner of your admin panel page.
For now, let's pretend that the current version is 3.5.0. When I go to the WHMCS website (
WHMCS - The Complete Client Management, Billing & Support System) I notice they have the latest build or version 3.6.0. That means that it's time to update the current version.
On the website, at the very top in the right hand corner, you will notice a small set of links. Click on the one that says "Client Area". You then will be taken to the login area. Login with your account details.
Once logged in you'll be taken to the client overview area. You'll see that the menu list on the right side, that was once grayed out, is now click-able. Click on the link that says "My Licenses".
On that page you will see a list of all the current licenses that you own. On the right end of one of the licenses, you will notice a little image with a green pencil. Click on it for the license you would like to edit.
On this page on the top you will notice it says Manage license and below it Download. Scroll to that and see the download link for the latest build/version. Click on it.
Once the download is complete, find where you saved it. It'll most likely be zipped, so right click on the file and click where it either says unzip files or extract files.
Once extraced, open the folder and make sure to read the "Read Me" file first, its titled that for a reason. The read me files show help you from here on how to update your current version to a newer one. If you by chance run into any problems, do not hesitate to post below.
Once you have uploaded all of the new version files, go to the install page. You will be taken to an End User License Agreement. Press Agree to continue.
The next page is to make sure everything is running correctly. At the bottom you will have a few options to choose from, make sure to choose the correct one that goes with what version you currently have and the one you will be updating to.
Once you have hit the install/upgrade button, that will be all. You will then be taken to a completed installation/upgrade page! Easy no?
You can also easily check for version upgrades within your WHMCS admin panel. Hover over the help category and click the link that says "Check for Updates".
The page will then show you your current version and the current verions, or newer one out for release.
