I've found that more and more ISPs are blocking port 25. When they do there is nothing that you can do in Thunderbird to get around this. When this happened to me I asked Surpass to open an alternative port on my server. They agreed and opened port 198 on my server. Since then I've never had a problem with an ISP blocking SMTP. You may want to make the same request for you server.
