Reseller-->Dedicated : Walking the right path
I hope I don't confuse anyone with this post. I am just trying to figure out the best way to do this and thought you guys could help me brainstorm and give me tips on how to go down the path from reseller to dedicated. I have a reseller account [for simplicity sake, we'll call it SITE1.COM]. Now, I am itching bad for a dedicated but I am also in the planning stages of a reorganization where my domain name will change [thus becoming SITE2.COM], plans will change, etc.
SITE1.COM has customized domain servers. All hosted domains are pointed to NS1/2.SITE1.COM. My original plan was create dedicated using SITE2.COM and then just transfer SITE1.COM under the dedicated as a reseller package. Seems like the easiest way to go. Therefore leaving all the old settings the same and the few customers I have won't be too put out b/c all that would be needed to change would be the IPs of the nameservers and the IPs of their cPanels, etc.
I may be wrong about this approach but from what I've been reading [all forum posts and the surpass dedicated server guide] this is the simplest approach to take. If you have a better idea about this, please give me your thoughts.
So, my main concern is how do I start this whole process? I have not registered SITE2.COM as I'm unsure as the easiest path to take in the process. Can anyone submit, in the clearest way possible, exactly the best way to start this? I want to make this as simple as possible and have a smooth transition. Eventually, I would like all hosted accounts to be moved under SITE2.COM and be able to remove all references to SITE1.COM.
I have 2 1/2 months of free hosting left on my reseller [thnx to the awesome contests on the site] and now would be an excellent time to make the transition while I wouldn't have to be paying for both a dedi and my reseller account.
I hope I am explaining this clearly enough. It's very early and my caffeine intake has not reached its full potential yet. I look forward to hearing your comments on this as, like I said earlier, I have been itching for a dedi for a while now.
