I've looked over this thread a few times now, and I don't really understand what the point is anymore. At first it was just discussing an interesting web host but now it seems like things have turned into a bit of a war.
Kickers and Haug, I usually agree with you guys, but this doesn't seem like the place to rant and rave about DreamHost vs. Surpass. I don't go to WalMart and whine to the customers there how Target has better selection. So why do that here? |

I'm sure he did not INTEND it to sound as disrespectful as you took it, but you see it all from one side, and we from another. I see the frustration of having to explain myself 3 times through the ticket queue, only to have something "fixed" that wasn't broken.... or be told that everything is right, when I've already documented and explained why it's not. That being said, however, support here is very good, and much better than some corporate help-desks that i've worked with / through. There ought to be, however, (and this is just my opinion) for people like Haugland, Kickers, me, Cowboy, etc.... who might just know what we're talking about to 'skip' first level... maybe route us directly to Paul..<GRIN> I know, it's hard to priioritize, but I'm sure you've experienced the frustration of being on the phone and having some poor <insert outsourced nationality here> bloke named "Bob" read a script of troubleshooting steps to you, when you've already taken all those steps and more before you got to the point where you decided you needed some help. Just my $0.02 John

Quick Question(s),
For everyone who said they use dreamhost, do you also host here? And if I may, why do you host at 2 locations? The way some of the posts came across it almost sounded like that... Thanks,

I should clarify that I'm currently not with Surpass at this time. I know it seems weird with me being a moderator and not a customer of Surpass -- but it might just make me unbiased towards various situations.
I do know Kickers is with both. My guess is that Surpass is a better solution for some of his sites, but not the others. |

I was hosting with both at one point. But realized that I didn't have the demand, so I axed dreamhost, because Surpass IMO is better overall. The reason I started hosting with hostdime was because at the time Surpass didn't have any sales going on, and I found hostdime to have some good coupon codes. Otherwise I would have just gotten another account here.

I also use it to test stuff out on, like PHP scripts I'm working on and yeah... I also use them for backups so I can back up sites via FTP to another location (so I could do it while I wasn't at my computer, like if I go out of state and stop by a library). Also to host projects that I'm not really active on. I also like having 2 locations so I can switch back and forth if a reason to do so every came up. |

Upon reflection-
We have kept things simple with cPanel. But cPanel also limits our ability to stretch out into new directions and features. We are going to start development on our control panel soon. 2007 is going to be a great year for sure. |
