Has anyone here used dreamhost.com

I was digging around the internet and came across this hosting company. Here is what I find most interesting...

for 7.95/month you get:

200 Gig of storage, they apparently don't care if you use their servers as backup devices.

2000 TB of transfer

All accounts come with Shell users, a max of 75/account

Unfortunatly or not, the do not use Cpanel, but instead an in house system, which seems a little odd, but not to difficult to get used to.

I've read that in their past, they have had some issues with service, ie. network slow at times, but most of that appears to have stopped in the last several months, had to do with unexpected rapid growth...

Anyone have any info on them, that storage is hard not to consider, I've also found coupon codes which would lower your monthly price to about $4/ month when you sign up for 2 years... and just in case a 97-day money-back guarantee...

Any thoughts?

I've heard the 50/50 thing on them as with most anything like that. Folks either love them or hate them.

I looked at them before coming to Surpass. Just did not feel right for me.

I used their hosting in conjunction with Surpass, and thought it was good. Their control panel is easy to use. I had multiple domains on it and didn't have any problems. I like Surpass better though. The community here is tops, prices are competitive, and support is what its suppose to be. So I cancelled my dreamhost, and just decided to stick with Surpass.

If you must go with Dreamhost, make sure you check their forums for discount codes, there are some really good ones there.

I use them as well, but I don't like them as much.
There's no uptime _________ (I can't spell the word, so I won't try, you can fill in the blnk I hope...)

The forum isn't as freindly as this one, and I do suggest you look for a good discount code (some give up to $97 off)
The fastest tickets I had answered were before I signed up (heh...)
After I signed up, the tickets took longer to get a response from.
I use them for site back-ups, and important files... They don't seem to care.
You can also let others have access to your stuff through the panel, so if you have a group site and don't want others to have all the privalages, you can let others on the user panel access it...
They have some nice stuff, but yeah...

I like Surpass alot better mainly because of support (they'll probably go to the ends of the world to fix stuff or find an answer), the forums because it's nice to find others that are experienced in stuff, and alot of other things.

If you want to try some stuff out, I can create an FTP account and stuff for you.
I hardly use my account there...

I use them, and so does Haugland.

I'm not trying to steal sales from Surpass, as I still use them for a good portion of my sites, but Dreamhost, in my experience, has far, far better PHP4/5 support, and is quick to recognize and react to growing trends such as Ruby/Ruby on Rails and the like.

I've had no regrets.

Even though some here have used them with OK results, I have a difficult time with their marketing strategy. To give every user on the machine 200 Gig & 2000 TB of transfer is not feasable - if you were to really try and use that much bandwidth and storage, I am 99.9% sure that they would ask you to "upgrade". My opinion is that if they are not upfront with you before you are a customer, how are you going to be treated after you are a customer. Just wrong in my personal viewpoint.

Not to say your milage won't vary - but as for me - give me honesty and integrity and I'll give you my dollar.

But then again that's not what every single person is looking for in their host for their top priorities.
