I don't know the American prices, but you won't find many SLR's for $500.

I may be looking at the wrong prices too, those are just some quick ones I saw. Basically an entry SLR, or whatever that may mean.

I know next to nothing about photography, but plan to learn.

yeah like H said... no SLRs for $500... But you could always steal one in which case the only cost would be the time it took to get it... and the jail time/lawsuit that may follow.

I use the Rebel XT.. which is around $850ish right now. It's quality it freakin amazing!

BTW, it's an SLR from canon. Here's a shot my brother took with it at cape cod.
