External Hard drive?
Anyone recommend a good external hard drive? I'm not sure how much space I need but I am doing a Graphics degree course for the next 3 years and I want to save my sites as well...
I like in the UK so if anyone knows... Or is it cheaper to purchase online? ![]() |

I suggest buying a drive and enclosure separately. That way you can upgrade the drive in the future.
I love Nexstar enclosures. They are aluminum and the one I have has SATA inside, and eSATA and USB on the outside. As far as Hard Drives, I really like Seagate. Depending on where you buy them, they come with up to a 5 year warranty from Seagate. Newegg.com usually has deals on lots of things.

Unfortunately newegg doesn't ship out of the US if I remember correctly.
I was going to recommend tigerdirect but when you choose UK customer it redirects you to http://www.misco.co.uk/indexuk.asp? so I would check there if they have prices like newegg and tigerdirect you will get a good deal. Also as dew said case and drive seperate is usually cheaper and better if you dont mind putting it together. And upgradable ![]()

As others have said, it is usually better to buy an enclosure and drives separately also, it would be sensible if you are storing everything externally to spend a few pounds more on a unit which can have 2 mirrored drives (RAID 1) so that if one drive dies then the second one still retains the data, you then replace the dead drive and it re-builds back to 2 copies.
Drives we use here are all Raid Edition Western Digital with a 5yr warranty such as at http://www.dabs.com/productview.aspx...000,4294963789 As for housing, maybes a Whale http://www.store2go.net/shop/ultimat...e+USB+++eSATA/ you can buy it with 2 x 500Gb drives from them though their drive price looks a bit high.
