My Comp is almost dead...
![]() ![]() So... Vista died on our computer. Every time someone used internet explorer, the computer would crash (it got a bug or virus), so I told my family not to use it, but guess what, they did because they don't want to transition to anything else. I tried to run a virus scan, but people would stop it from running because it made the computer slow (since it was running and they wanted to use it) So now Vista won't start, and it attempts to load the Vista CD, but can't... Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix it? It has a bunch of those expensive programs that can only be installed on one computer and yeah... |

I did that before and had issues trying to explain that I had to format my hard drive and I need to reinstall certain programs and the operator person thought I was lying... ![]() |

Download and install Spybot SD and Adaware if you have not already. Download the AVAST command line scanner from avast.com Take the computer off line. Remove the ethernet connection. Boot to SAFEMODE. Disable "system restore points". Run Adaware first, cleaning anything that it finds. Run Spybot SD second, cleaning anything it finds Run the Avast command line scanner, cleaning anything it finds. Reboot Repeat If it's clean the second time, boot to "safe mode with networking" Open IE and, if it works, go to "housecall.trendmicro.com". Run the full system scan there. That ought to help clean this thing up... John Try to run SPYBOT

1) get a stack of blank cds
2) goto www.distrowatch.org 3) pick on right side and click it 4) click on Download Mirrors 5) find latest ISO and download 6) burn CD 7) leave CD in tray and reboot to CD 8) if you like it the click on the "install" icon if not the goto #2, lather, rinse and repeat Mepis 7.0 is great have it running on a HP tx1115nr laptop One change to sound file and used ndiswrapper to get wLan working oh, the blinky flash buttons around monitor are dead but that is fixable, but I don't care PCLinux #1 on DistroWatch is installed on a HP CD5300 at the office This box has internal sound [amazed me on that] that works just fine [not stereo but makes noise] Lastly both of these distros do Beryl, the 3-D desktops, long before MS decided they need to "innovate" into Hasta-La-Vista. I'm a happy camper and my GIS mapping software works under WINE. All have to do now is get the programming [Delphi 2006] under WINE and the Winders box get donated to a less privileged family in town. Last note the HP laptop came with 1gig memory I got a good deal on 4gig Oops, HP says it is crippled to 2gig and Vista reported 2.7gig Mepis sees and uses all 4gig [stupid manipulating MS vendors can pound sand]
