Amazon Shipping

So I just purchased a $400 toy from amazon, and when I got to the shipping options I had a few to choose from. When you click an option, it updates the estimated delivery date. Standard Shipping (3-5 Days) estimated I'd get my delivery by April 4th. Two Day Shipping Estimated April 8th. One Day Shipping Estimated April 7th.

I called customer service to ask what the heck was up- she told me it was a glitch and if I want the fastest shipping I should get the one day shipping.

So I took a gamble and selected 1 day shipping.

And it still estimates April 7th (today is the 2nd).

So I Emailed them and complained that if that estimate was correct, I wanted to be downgraded to "Standard" shipping and given a refund (There was a $20 difference in shipping costs).

Now I just haven't heard anything back and I'm getting very antsy.

Why does Amazon Shipping suck so hard? This experience makes me want to do very little business with them.

When did you contact them? It takes them a few hours to respond.
I've actually heard that when a glitch occurs, it's usually displaying the right information on amazon (like if it says $-5.00 it'll actually give you $5). But I haven't experienced anything like that.

I've had small issues with amazon in the past. Usually they're good about finding some way to make you happy.

The problem with Amazon is that it is such a big company, and it sometimes takes a few days to get shipments out. They don't have the ability to change shipping options on the fly, and items tend to go out of their warehouse on different days.

One of my friends ordered a cell phone at 2PM yesterday and it wasn't shipped until about 30 hours later. The processing time is what really kills you when ordering from bigger places.

I never do 1-day shipping or anything thats not standard shipping anymore because the one time I did it didn't show up in time. It even took longer than if I just did standard shipping! I can't honestly remember if it was Amazon or not (But I wouldn't be surprised if it was because I'm always on there)

They have so many people you can buy from on there, God knows where it's shipping from.

You have some cojones though to be ordering a $400 item and trusting it in the mail!

Well I know that they have other merchants- but I made sure that Amazon was the seller on this item.

He told me that it had to travel from one warehouse to the closest warehouse and then ship to me. It wouldn't go out till friday.

I asked if there was a way to get it faster (ship it direct, I'd pay the extra).. he said no.

So then I asked for a refund, because I don't think it's 1 day shipping by anybody's standards to take 5 days. I don't care what their logistical issues and excuses are- It says 1 day shipping and that's a bit disingenuous if you can't even ship within the week. I understand that you're looking at 1 day shipping once it gets sent out- but there's no excuse for how long it'll take to get sent out. The idea of 1 day shipping should not be there to counter-balance the annoyingly long delay they have in shipping in the first place. I feel like that's fraud. Force people to pay expensive 1 day shipping so that they can finally get their product in 5 days. If not- wait a month.

And yes, in the past I've ordered books and games from amazon, and it typically takes about 3 weeks on standard shipping. WTF!? They're the biggest online retailer, why can't they figure this out?

Where do you live?
I always get stuff in ~4-7 days after I order (always standard shipping or the free super savings shipping).
The longest it took me to get something was 2 weeks because UPS lost the package and it wound up going to Alaska (I was so upset, it was in Jacksonville, FL, then I check back later, and it didn't update for a week, and then it said it was in Alaska). But that was UPS, not Amazon itself.

I live in NH- but it's just outside of Boston (bout an hour and a half away), so I generally get anything to/from northeast within a day or two.

To compare: Newegg shipments are usually 2-3 days from NJ. The catch is that Newegg actually ships their products within a timely schedule.

oh, and in case anybody's curious - here's my new toy :
Squeezebox Duet Network Music System: Listen to the music you love in any room in your home

Wow, that's a pretty cool toy. I can understand why you want it NOWNOWNOW. The downfall of online shopping is having to stare at the thing you're buying and know that it's going to take a week before you get it. It almost makes it worth getting off your butt, braving the outside world and going to a store.

Almost.
