Surpass Hosting DC Team for a Cause?

Distributed Computing is a great way to give back to the community without costing the end user anything.

Boinc is the most popular multi-cause method of participating. By installing and running the Boinc application, your 'puter can donate its idle cycles to find a cure for many diseases, find ET and answer other complex questions of life.

I've participated for many years and thought that it might be a fun way to show support for Surpass and maybe save a life or two at the same time. I would be willing to donate a few cycles to a Supass Hosting team should one be created.

Here is a list of Boinc projects: Choosing BOINC projects

Anyone interested?

Odd. I know for one this isn't useful to me. I hardly have my computer sitting around idle for long periods of time wasting power.

I always turn off my pc when i go to work, then again it could be cuz my pc has a huge power supply and runs the power bill up very easy.

Correct me if I am wrong, but just because a power supply is lets say 500watts, it doesnt mean it is using 500watts, all it is saying if you have a system which demands it then it will deal with it if and when required

ianonline is correct -- you're highly unlikely to use anywhere near the rated capacity of your power supply. Doing so would be dangerous, kind of like constantly running your car at the redline.

It's also important to note that maxing out your CPU at 100% (which is what running distributed computing programs does) will drive up power usage as well as the heat your computer is generating. I run RC5 (dnetc / distributed.net) on about half a dozen computers, but I generally don't like to run it at home during the summer since it's already hot as hell over here...
