Avast free, but I usually have it turned off and just use the shell menu to scan things I need to

ZA was thrown out years ago when they played and messed up, it has always been the AV equivalent of Comic Sans - just for the under 10's as it's a shock/panic toy.

Work here is F-Secure but thats because it was free but again, works, no hassle but way expensive compared to Kaspersky.

So in order...
Kaspersky
F-Secure

Let me know what you need and the US costs as we buy trade here.
A friend of mine sells Kaspersky single use one year licenses through a deal with Kaspersky. He gets them for a tremendously low price. I was thinking of buying one from him so I can drop it on my laptop. I've always liked the way it works, and since Zone Alarm uses it as their antivirus tool, I can dig it.

F-Secure from Embarq was registered as a keylogger on my wife's computer by Sppybot and Adaware so I pulled it back off.

I love Avast. I especially dig the way it alerts you.

Setting the stage:

A few years ago, before I met my wife, I had my computer hooked up to my 200 watt Sony stereo. I used it because of the music I make. So, one night I installed Avast for the first time. I let it start scanning and went to bed. I was quite tired, it was 7 am or something, and I needed rest. So I let it scan....and when it found something all hell broke loose. It sounded like I was in a Submarine that was sinking fast or something with the alarm sound it makes. It scared me out of my bed.

Avast is awesome.

I am on the common sense train. Viruses aren't magic- you can avoid them if you know what you're doing. I keep AVG installed (but not running) to scan files I need scanned.

Granted I work in computer repair... but still..

I thought that way too once, Fred... then, a "drive by" downloader on a website I've been to a 1000 times got a bit of malware onto the computer.

Right past "spybot teatimer" and other free stuff.

With Avast, that's not happened ever again, not on any of our family PC's.
