My new ride
Just picked this up last week, this is my first new road bike since I have been 15. This is a highway legal scooter with a top speed of 108 MPH. It also gets on the average of 55 MPG.

108? That would scare the crap out of me.

I would never go that fast, but our highways are 70, and most people do 75-80. I go fast enough to keep up with other traffic.

Traffic is stupid that way down here. US 1 is 65-70 and people do 80-90 like it's nothing.
I used to have a Datsun 260Z and speed was fun in that car. It was like driving a really fast go cart.

108 on a scooter sounds pretty scary. I would recommend investing in some leather and a really, really nice helmet if you intend to do some serious riding. It's amazing to see the abundance of people burning up the road on bikes with no helmets/protective gear on.

I picked up a really nice DOT helmet from the Yamaha dealer with a full face plate. It also has an integrated sun shield that will come down eliminating the need to wear sunglasses.
Wearing a helmet in Michigan is mandatory as far as I know, I would never ride without one.

When I was a patrol, I used to run radar on a stretch where it was 70 during the day, 65 at night, and the average speed of the driver was 80-85. I'd pull over random people. They would tell me something along the lines of them staying with traffic, and why didn't I pull them all over. I would reply, it's like fishing, you don't catch them all
![]() I wouldn't be caught dead riding that scooter 108 mph..... |
