Banned scripts and important updates.
These warnings are to shared and reseller clients.
**If you have a dedicated server, you can run the scripts that you need to use even if they are listed below, because your actions only will only reflect on your accounts that you control.** ------------------------- If your site is ever suspended for a script or any other reason, email support[at]surpasshostng.com first and they can give you the reason and help you resolve the issue if your account caused a server problem. If the suspension was because of a payment issue, they will forward your request to billing since billing was not able to contact you (and now can because of your ticket), thus causing the site to be suspended because of nonpayment. If you were personally emailed by a staff member about a suspension or script removal, please correspond with their emails to you. ------------------------- 1. All chat scripts are not allowed, in most cases. The one offered in our cPanel is disabled and the icon will be replaced with another feature soon. You must get prior permission from us to use a chat script. Chances are that your request will probably be denied. Chat scripts, used by just a few people, can wreak havoc on a shared server and bring it down. If a client installs a chat script without our permission or consultation, a regular system scan on each of our servers will reveal the files/scripts that we ban, and the files/scripts will be removed. Some chat scripts DO go unnoticed on some of our servers, but if at anytime you do run one and we haven't found it yet, and it does cause a problem, it cannot be used again. 2. MovableType and Greymatter- **Notice to all existing clients and all future clients** We do allow these BUT: BE SURE TO KEEP THEM UPDATED with all latest versions and upgrades. THANK YOU, in advance and thank you to all of our current clients who have cooperated and cleaned up their installs. On occasion these scripts can get caught in a loop and cause a server to crash. There seems to be no real fix for this offered, so we just have to monitor the servers for any load increase. |

Clarification of chat references
Regular chat scripts and applications: It's possible that a script that you use (whether for chatting or something entirely different) may never cause an issue but if it does, it will be either suspended from use until another solution is proposed or removed if it was particularly damaging. If any script causes the server load to increase appreciably, it will be suspended from use. At present, the number one cause of excess server load and suspended websites are chat scripts. Chat scripts are problematic in a shared hosting environment because they lead to near constant requests to the server. Obviously, this is unacceptable in a shared hosting situation and qualifies the owner of the script as a "bad neighbor." Internet Relay Chat: IRCs have a tendency to draw a decent amount of CPU cycles that drain server performance. IRCs are only ideal for a dedicated server environment. IRC and random bots are not allowed on a shared server. |
