Addicts
Is there anyone else here that is hopelessly addicted to Star Wars Galaxies?
If so, tell me why, and what galaxy you are in! We can feed the addiction together! |

The controls are alright, really. You can either use the arrow-keys to move, or the mouse. I prefer the arrow-keys on long periods of running, but an arrow-key and mouse combination is quite good for navigating throughout the cities. When I say long periods of running, I mean it. The planets are HUGE. It is said that each planet is the size of the entire Everquest game, and I believe there are currently five planets available. I chose to start on Tatooine, and haven't found a reason to leave yet. There is still plenty more to find. Getting a speeder or swoop fixes this problem, however. The battles are very fun. My current character is a combination of a Scout and Marksman, and I find the ranged combat to be awesome! Melee combat seemed the same as any other game of its type, yet ranged added on the extra fun task of actually being able to dodge other blaster attacks. You getting hit or not is not solely based on chance! LucasArts did a great job of keeping true to the Star Wars universe, as well. There are tons of little things that only real SW buffs would notice, and I think that it is very cool that they chose to include them for us. You'll have to play for yourself to see what they are! Graphics are definitely one of this games strong points. Everything is stunning! The transition between day and night is great, and seeing the moon hanging in the sky at night makes an awesome backdrop for those late exploring missions. The ominous Star Destroyers that loom above each planet was a welcome detail, as they look great, even from their distance. A very nice touch. The sand storms on Tatooine were done wonderfully. You actually think you are in a storm! Well, with surround sound you do. Vision is nicely obscured in certain spots where the sand is more concentrated, not just everywhere during the storm. Another neat little touch is what happens to the player-run cities after a storm. Sand shifts, and makes the area look a LOT different. No more relying on certain ditches and hills to make your way around! It actually turned out to be a bit confusing. Another great thing is the way you can develop your character. You are not limited to the starting profession you choose, as you are allowed to cross-train, and advance to an either elite profession, or hybrid profession. Bounty hunters are included under the hybrid category, and take quite some time to attain! The Jedi system is one that they have managed to keep quite secret. The goals you must complete to become a Jedi are never revealed, and they are different for each character. So much for looking it up on the 'net. You really have no idea when you might become one, if at all. All in all, Star Wars Galaxies is really an amazing game. It is one that I find myself spending hours and hours playing, when I only meant to play for a little bit each day. It is totally immersive, and masterfully created. You should give it a try! Sorry the review wasn't five pages. ![]() |
