I force a no-www (http://no-www.org) because honestly, the www is just wasted typing. It's best to force it one way or the other if you're very into pagerank. Duplicate links will knock down your pagerank.

I have never forced my visitors to www or non-www. As far as I know, it doesn't matter to google anymore, so I really don't see the point. I keep my inbound links (through link exchanges, etc.) consistent with either www or no-www and the PR for my websites is always identical regardless of whether I type the www or not.

I personally hate putting the www in anymore so if I do not have to do it I see it as a plus. Without it also is much easier for people to remember your name better. more letters just confuse people in my opinion.

If you're just forcing the www, or forcing the www out, with htaccess, it doesn't matter. The user will type in www<dot>site<dot>tld and it'll just make them go pro-www or anti-www. Just force one, and all users will still happily use what they prefer. I personally use www in front of my domains, but I generally just type in my domains with out the www. xD

Lol, I'm used to having a www. so I would probably add that in it just for the heck of it.

I don't personally mind, I suppose you could look at the www. is kinda like a marketing thing, when you hear a link of the radio for example the www. automatically tells people it's a website almost like a psychological prompt. or maybe that's just me, lol.

You still get some people calling it the world wide web rather than just the net.

If your using scripts like Wordpress, Joomla, or such then in most cases the config file containing the main data for physical and virtual path will be a determining factor. If you enter in the www and it's not coded in the script then it will most likely add it as it loads or remove it. I think this was done to stop session issues but don't quote me on that, I just remember something along those lines from experience.

As already noted in this post, if it's forced and a user goes the other way then the url should correct itself as it loads.

Some of my sites I have the www and others I don't, I find it almost sad to say goodbye to it, it's historical.

www. is deprecated. have the following to say if it interests anyone:

Quote:
By default, all popular Web browsers assume the HTTP protocol. In doing so, the software prepends the 'http://' onto the requested URL and automatically connect to the HTTP server on port 80. Why then do many servers require their websites to communicate through the www subdomain? Mail servers do not require you to send emails to recipientmail.domain.com. Likewise, web servers should allow access to their pages though the main domain unless a particular subdomain is required.

Succinctly, use of the www subdomain is redundant and time consuming to communicate. The internet, media, and society are all better off without it.
Some forum boards and other cms style software is also set to recognise www and then apply it as a link below I'll type the Surmunity link twice once with and once without (I believe in this forum it also appends some BBcode with some data from the page perhaps from the meta's):

Surpass Web Hosting Forums - Discuss a better website!
surmunity.com

Notice how one works and the other doesn't

In terms of speed http:// is 7 long and www. is only 4 without either in a post of many web software it will only see it as text.

Not so important but I thought I'd point it out.

www. is not deprecated
www. is deprecated.

I think most domains look better with the www in place.

I never used to use it, but now I code all of my scripts and promote most of my sites with the www in place. Every site I've ever had works either way.
