Nuke and SMTP

I am severely new to nuke, and have gotten the site installed and functioning for nuke and phpbb. However, new users are not receiving confirmation emails. I was told that I need to have nuke use smtp, instead of the built in mail function, but I am totally lost. How do I accomplish this? Is there a tutorial, and just a setting some place that I can change?

Any help appreciated.

I have never used nuke before, but I had a bit of a google and it looks like not receiving confirmation emails is a common problem with the script. Yet to find anything helpful, though. Maybe someone else will have more luck than I have
