Topsite Spam Help.
I have two topsites that use Aardvark Topsite Script. They are turning out to be the worlds biggest headache because of this little fellow here:
![]() And trust me when I say that I definitely feel like the little dude with the hammer. The sign-up form has captcha (which appears to be completely useless) and I've set the script so that new submissions need to be approved by me before they appear on the topsite. Which is great except that the spam sites (why are they always Turkish sites?) still display my topsite button and I get killed with button hits from them. It's getting worse and worse every month and I don't know how to stop it. It's chewing my bandwidth; on one of the sites I've gone from 10GB a month to 40GB+ in only two months. I get this every couple of days: ![]() 58 sites in a couple of days?! GO AWAYYYY. I've been googling away and it looks like this is a common problem, but so far I'm yet to find a solution. If anyone has suggestions, please helppp.

I'd use .htaccess to referral block sites that shouldn't be hosting your image. And instead of sending your image, I'd recommend a white GIF with the text "DIAF".

Unfortunately, once your topsite button gets listed on these Turkish spam sites, it is pretty much impossible to get it removed. There is really no good way to stop the traffic (automated I'm sure) from these websites other than changing the domain name =(
You can block referrers through a .htaccess file, but Apache still has to process the request. With that many requests, it will start to cause load problems on the server. |

Unfortunately Caseylee, this happened to my first domain here at SH (simply-torn.net). I too had an Aardvark Topsite script (damn to hell) and too many HTTP connections were coming in that support shut it down because it was so bad. *sniffle* so st.net died that day, all because of a stupid script. -__- Once they have your link, there isn't much you can do because even if you delete it, the link is still going to pull up the 404 not found page, which takes resources from you.
EDIT or I could be mistaken?

Hmm I actually did read that article a month ago when it first started happening, and it's not really the most practical solution if you have to manually add 50+ sites daily for not just one, but two sites :x
BUT, I guess I have to get off my ass and do it, or use my own topsite script instead of a freebie. But Aardvark has such pretty stat buttons :[ Free Chat Topsite and Directory
