I'm not sure what kind of progress you've made with getting this set up, but once you do, I highly recommend installing "Ultramon" so you can have a Windows taskbar on each monitor. This makes it a lot easier to manage things... I've been using it on my triple monitor setup here for a few years now and it works great.

Dual monitors can be very effective.
I use them so I can do one thing on monitor A, while having my email, IM and calendar open on Monitor B.

Thanks for all the help so far guys. I have done quite a bit of searching and this is the card that I would like to get:

Amazon.com: eVGA e-GeForce 7300GT Superclocked 512MB AGP Graphics Card-512-A8-N501-LR: Electronics

Any red flags I should know about with this? I read a large number of reviews on it and also called EVGA to make sure it works with Win2000 so I should be set pretty good.

That video card will be more than fine!

i still stick with my 939 board just for the sake of the agp slot as i have a All in wonder ATI card that i just dont want to lose. in fact i probably spent more than i should getting a dual core 939 processor rather than going to the am2 platform but you cant teach old dogs new tricks

branduin i took a look at the asus site ASUSTeK Computer Inc. and your board has i agp slot so it can support a dual monitor card. you wont be able to use both your onboard and a separate video card however.

ozzie some of the most glaring benefits i enjoy going dual monitor is multimedia(movie,tv etc ) on one while i am still able to work at those things i think i need to do.
An AIW card has the added benefit of fading the tv into the background and you can bring it up when the important stuff is on (like buffalos first round pick)
Also ever done a tutorial or used ebooks for how to do something? excellent if you have the application on one monitor and the instructions on the other.
My favourite one i think though is using my outlook.. the main outlook is on monitor one but when i open an email it opens on monitor 2. Some tweaking with apps makes things a lot more easier to utilize them on a dual screen.

if a third monitor is required or desired a pci video card(not pci express) can be added.

There is also this product which may work on your onboard video made by matrox. we dont hear a lot about matrox lately but they were the first to bring out dual video cards back when there were only pci slots to use.

Matrox Graphics - GXM - Products - TripleHead2Go Analog Edition

I use mine for research and writing. Word in one window, a web browser in the other.

If I'm not doing homework, I'll have a movie or a playlist going in one monitor and a web browser or graphics program in the other.

If I'm working on a big graphic, then the graphic will be in one monitor while the tools and pallet and stuff will be in the other.

I find it better than having two separate windows opened in the same monitor. It allows me to organize the windows between monitors. It also allows me to have a window full screened in one monitor while having some other windows opened in another. It's just to increase the amount of workspace.

Although, we have this really big monitor (32 inches :P ) and dual monitors with that is pretty useless, unless your watching a movie on the 32 inch and working on the other monitor.

My brother and I usually use one monitor for media and the other for work. On rare conditions, one's for word processing while the other is for research.

I do the bulk of my work on my main monitor (17" LCD), my second one, 17" CRT, typically has Winamp on it, or mIRC so I can see the chat while doing other things, and for programming manuals or other reference material while I'm coding on the main one.

I keep my browser not quite full screen so that I can drag it from one monitor to the other depending what I'm doing.

I'm using an eVGA 6800GT running in Dual View mode. My motherboard only supports up to 4X AGP, and has no on-board video. I do have a PCI video card I could use for a third monitor but I don't have the room on my desk LOL.

My video card has arrived in the mail!! Should I be worried about making backups of anything on my computer before I do the big switch? I am not anticipating anything crazy happening but I guess I would rather be safe than sorry. *gets out blank DVD's for data*
