SP2 1.7 GHz 1GB 80GB 1TB Monthly $90 Monthly

is practically the same as mine so can i expect to be paying 30 bucks less each month? I would like to keep my dual 40gb hard drives though one for backup purpases, i dont think i will ever need more than 40gb for normal file space anyway.

$30 less a month would be helpfull, then again i could keep paying $120 and maybe get a better processor? if thats how its going to work.

I will take a look at the new dedi packages more closely, if theres something i really like i may even pay a bit more to get a better server, i will see what i can afford.
Do you have cpanel installed? because historically the server price listings do not include that price/service, and its a 30$ charge. Actually, I have the SP1 package that i bought about 2 years ago? and im paying less than the currently advertised price by about 5$, and i have 500 GB more of bandwidth than they advertise with the current SP1.

If my assumption is right about cpanel, it looks like you are saving as much as 15$ a month. And ya, id have to wonder about the 40gb hdd, ive never seen a plan here offer a small hard drive, atleast not in the last 2 years, let alone in the last 6 months, are you sure its not 1 single 80gb? or even dual 80 gb hdd?

Yea i have dual 40GB drives it was kind of a custom plan setup by eman after i had to move from VPS.

What do you mean i have to re-order? cant tehy just upgrade me or move me onto a new server? The way I see it I can either save a few bucks each month by getting a similar server(if not identical) to the one i have or pay roughly the same amount as im paying now and get a slightly better server.

I dont want to be paying $120 a month when a new customer can signup and get practically the same deal for $90, know what i mean?
The thing is, they don't wish of it that customers start converting to save some money. It's just like how the servers during the dedicated sale is not an upgradable option and thye didn't allow cancellations during that time, or just not to go and repruchase one of the new servers in that sale.

So, the new stuff is mainly for new custoemrs or new server purchases. I'm sure you could buy one and transfer to it, but it might require a contract that you cannt cancel your current one until a specific time period.

Best to ask support directly, however.

that's the risk you take when you buy.

i don't see any difference between server hosting companies than shops on the street.

if you buy a car from a car dealer for $20k, then a month later the dealer reduced their prices or got a better deal on for say $15k they certainly wouldn't give you 5k back or a better model would they? why do people expect web hosts to do the same?

m0nty, I think perhaps it is because a car is seen as a more serious item. You can't easily give back a car.. but it seems easy to upgrade or downgrade your web hosting account. Still when thinking about it ethically, I don't think it shouldn't be expected. Personally I would not expect it. But I do understand where everyone is coming from on these opinions. Of course we want to say "yes, yes and yes" to everyone in all sitiuations also but that is something impossible.

There was one time I bought a pack of gum for $1.12. The next week they lowered the price to $1.07, plus it was extra long flavour. I was so mad they wouldn't refund me the difference.

I see where you guys are coming from. MOnty, a purchase like a car where you pay say cash is a one off purchase, i bought a new TV a while ago, 2 months later the price was down by £100 pounds, I didnt complain.

But hosting is not a one off cash deal, its a service you pay for every month, like you pay your cable company/ISP to supply you with TV/Net/Phone, etc, so let me put my piont this way, you sign up with a cable company and get a package of TV/broadband.phone for say $100 a month, 3 months later the cable company decides to drop the price of that package by lets say $50 dollars BUT its only for new customers..so new customers can pay 50 a month for the same package as you for years to come but you still have to pay the $100 a month for the same package....wouldnt you be asking the company why hasnt my price went down?

Its not like these new servers.prices are a special deal for new customers only like this price for a month then it goes up, it looks like thats the flat rate. If a company makes major package and or price changes then they should take effect across the board and every customer should be able to benefit.

there is also still the point that he is paying 120$ a month, 30$ of which is probably for cPanel? that means its 90$ for the server...? so he's probably paying for the same server, except that he has 2x40gb hdd instead of 1x80gb hdd?
