[Plan changes] Upgrades for dedicated servers and colo servers

Many have expressed concern that we have not yet upgraded our dedicated or colocation plans. Some have mentioned they have thought of canceling their servers in order to go back to a reseller plan because of the upgrades. This is not a good idea at all, especially if you are on a dedicated server because of previous TOS abuse (CPU/memory consumption).

The reasons to have a personal server are extremely vast. A dedicated box does not equally compare to a shared or reseller machine. If you have a Celeron dedicated and there's a shared hosting machine a few rows over which is a Dual Core AMD - then yes, the shared machine does have more processing power obviously. But your personal server likely has less accounts and resources are spread more efficiently among them all. There is truthfully nothing better than that. We could also get into the discussion of the "good neighbor" policy, and the fact that you do not have as much control over the applications running on your server. The list can go on and on.

We are able to give such large amounts of space and bandwidth due to "smart overselling" and with a dedicated server you are able to offer the same things to your customers if you wish. A dedicated server is an extreme freedom.

With all of that said, our new dedicated page is almost done. There are now four simplified lines:

Single-CPU Series
Dual-CPU Series
Dual-Core Series
Quad-Core Series

We will also be offering a new processor, the Intel Woodcrest. There are certainly differing views on the performance of Woodcrest versus Opteron in various environments but some will prefer to choose a high performance Intel.

And . . . bandwidth offerings are changing.

I will update this thread again as soon as the page and order system are back up.

Hope it comes up soon! I have a client that needs a dedicated server quickly. He has 1-2 weeks before his old service expires under InMotion, if that long, and wants to get the /--/ out of dodge over there.

I looking forward to the Duel Core series. I have received a new computer with a Intel Duel Core 2 processor, and dang, it's VERY fast at processing! Virtually no speed lost in performance of many applications running at once.

I still plan to get a server with ya guys, again, but first want my project to "lift-off", and support itself (plus some more) before I can verify funding. You want a stable customer, right?

They do indeed sound good. I may have to find a reason to go for one this Summer. Just to play with it. Or maybe just get a home computer to play with. For the specs I have seen and talk sounds most awesome.

I'm with you on that GH! We've been growing over the past year considerably and I am trying to build a business case to go dedi. Once I can convince the boss that the costs are covered and the stability is there for the long term we will move over I'm sure.

i may be one of those contemplating such issues re having my sites on an AMD dual core rather than a dedi celeron. it is probably my perception of processors with a personal computer environment that always will leave me second guessing. To be honest , i havent had any issues that i have been aware of with the celeron however ... im not sure if i would know with my limited knowledge when and if there was a core meltdown of the server..lol.

Anyways, i am looking forward to the new dedi plans to be made available. i sort of was expecting this in the last six months with the progression and price drop of dual core processors anyways. i have been wanting a memory upgrade for a bit to enhance performance but i also truthfully thought it would be throwing money away because i am sure the celerons are near extinction for dedi plans.

i did find it interesting to read that the intel processor was to be offered when surpass hosting posts this

Our Technology Surpass only uses AMD processors. AMD provides flexibility and cushion for process intensive sites that burst in CPU usage. This way we can lessen adverse effects as much as possible for other users in a shared hosting environment.

Also a suggestion not knowing whther it is of merit or not but perhaps because some of the dedis are becoming dated and sooner than later dual cores will be the norm , perhaps offering a special on "used" dedis for colocation. Thus keeping up with the technology for new dedicated plans and also the ability to sell off the existing equipment to more of an untapped market.

i really sincerely hope to move from a celeron server for peace of mind albiet my old school mentality of computers dictates probably unwarranted apprehensions. ill wait patiently to see what dedicated plans are offered.

a footnote noticing that on the previous site and also i notice the one dedicated plan offers 5 ips but anytime i checked the plans available on the /dedicated it was always 4 ips
