[Policy change] Jailed SSH access, now free.

Jailed SSH access is now free on all shared and reseller plans except:

OC5 Shared
OC10 Reseller

(These two plans will still require the $20 one time fee to enable access.)

If you request to our support department to enable access, you must do these two very easy things:

1) Scan your valid identification card (driver's license or state issued ID, or your scanned passport if you do not have another form of ID) as it is still a requirement for us to have this on file. You must fill out the SSH form, with the scan attached:

http://www.surpasshosting.com/forms/ssh-request.pdf

Please have this ready BEFORE you request access for quick turnaround.

2) Open a ticket at our helpdesk to request access, and attach the ID and form to the ticket.

And of course, once activated - please use your access responsibly.

Question:
What if I have already paid for SSH before (the $20 one time fee)? Do I get a refund?
Answer:
Unfortunately we cannot give a refund. Our previous rules were in place for a very long time. It is time to change them and we can only go forward with them. We thank you immensely for your understanding and cooperation.
Question:
How do I SSH to the server? It's not working.
Answer:
You are probably using the wrong port number.
We have changed the SSH port on shared/reseller servers from port 22 (standard) to the non standard port 1291 for security reasons.

(If you had SSH access already, please continue to SSH into your account using the same credentials yet use port 1291 instead of port 22.)
Question:
Can I give SSH access to the accounts under my reseller plan?
Answer:
The free SSH access is only for the main account. We only have account information for our direct reseller, so for security reasons you must maintain responsibility for the actions of subaccounts and submit the one time fee for each.
