Question Mambo Installation

Okay, so I just bought my space here (yay me). First time having my own space.

I want to install Mambo. I go to Scripta, Mambo, and then try to install it. It wants me to create a directory to install it into.

If I do this (using say /Mambo), will I need to direct people to www.xyz.com/Mambo ? Or will just going to www.xyz.com bring them to the Mambo front page?

Or do I need to download Mambo from their site, and install it without the directory to get that to happen?

Just a little confused here given this is my first crack at managing my own space.

(sure hope that explanation/question made sense)

Yes, you will need to redirect your users. However, if you wait a bit, once your server is updated to use Fantastico rather than Scripta, you can install it in the root directory. If you are wondering when this will be, e-mail support and ask. http://desk.surpasshosting.com

I guess the change to fantastico is in progress across all of surpass's servers?

Because when I check the various packages offered, the one I chose has "Fantastico = Yes" on the comparison chart.

Dew, I think you mean Mambo unless I missed something. And if so, yes I would agree. Just download and install it yourself....and by it I mean Xoops. :p

Thanks everyone for all the help. I did manage to install Mambo manually. I'm still amazed that I did actually. This is my very first foray into the backend of website management.

So far, having a blast learning everything. Glad to have these forums to answer my noob questions.

Thanks again!

mambo and Xoops are great "content management systems". You can learn a great deal with either. Dig in to the templates and learn some CSS / HTML / PHP.... It's really a learning experience!
