So, I chose Surpass Hosting because Fantastico is *supposed* to have this 4images thing in it and I want to create image galleries. After spending time on this, I am completely at a loss as to what to do.
I figured out how to get the 4images install files onto my site, but the installation asks me questions that I frankly don't understand. I tried to set-up an SQL database since I think that's what it wants me to do, and I fell in even deeper. Is there some sort of a step-by-step tutorial for this? I have ZERO interest in learning programming here. - netgeist |

Exactly... I can't seem to think of a specific tutorial for 4images, but if you post the questions it is asking you, I believe that we can help you. Most of them are probably fairly simple things you don't want to know/deal with, and some of us here can do that.. I never installed the script myself, but I am sure I can help... Post any questions you don't understand and we will try and help you along the way...

Here's the install screen:
Database server type mysql Database server hostname Database name Database username Database password Prefix for tables in database Admin configuration Admin username Admin password Admin password (Confirm) I do not know what to put for most of those items. I assume I am making up the admin username and password. I don't know what to put for the database information. So, I tried to create one. Which prompted me with this screen: Databases: User: Db: Db: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Users: UserName: Password: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Access Hosts: localhost Host (% wildcard is allowed): At that point, I didn't know what to do at all. So you see, I am not trying to be difficult. I just have no idea what I am doing, and asking specific questions is impossible when you have zero knowledge of the subject. But since there is no tutorial, there is the info. - netgeist |

Database name create one of your db's in Cpanel, "4images"
Database username will be created when you do the previous step, "netgeist". Database password, "netgeist" will be created when you do the previous step. Of course, use your own values. I'm taking chances with those answers. I use Gallery. |

On the MySQL databases page (the one you just described) there should be an input box that looks like
Db: [____________] [ Add Db ] In the box, put in the name for the database, ie. 4images, then click Add db. Below that, in the users section, find the boxes Username and Password and create a new user, it does not matter what either of these is (although it should be something you can remember). Once you've done this, a new user should appear in the drop-down menus, should be something like User: [yourname_user |_| ] Db [yourname_4images |_| ] [ Add User to Db ] Select the user and database that you just created and click the button. Now, on the 4images installation page, fill in the following info for the database: Database server hostname: localhost Database name: yourname_4images Database username: yourname_user Database password: (((whatever you put for the users password))) Prefix for tables in database: 4imgs (((you can put whatever you want or leave it blank) and then just fill in the admin stuff to whatever you want. yourname will be whatever your login is for cPanel. |
