Wget disabled?

Hello. I just found out that access to the wget command was disabled according to tech support because it is a possible security risk?

My site requires using wget for automation purposes (I run an IRC statistics engine on my home computer that logs and renders an html stats file that I use wget to upload the file to my webserver).

I would like to see wget access re-enabled.

Lastly, anyone else feel that Surpass should let users know before they up and change access to commands or services?

Here's another thread that discusses the issue: cron not working in Pixel?

Sometimes if there has been unusual activity on a server then services are disabled, yes for good reasons.. but no we can't announce when these things happen. Many things happen during the day to different servers. It's just how it is, a lot goes on behind the scenes. I understand the frustration but you probably are one of the only people if not the only one that used that command. Personally I wasn't even aware it was available on shared servers in the first place because of security risks it does cause. I will talk to the admin that did it and see what can be done. Something had to have happened for them to have noticed that feature was enabled on your server, and to turn it off. I am sure that it was in best interest of the server and all of the accounts on it at the time.

I have had it enabled again so that you can use it if you have shell access, which I am sure you did. This is the issue.

It remains disabled for the entire server due to some issues that happened recently. (It is disabled on entire server using mod_security, which prevents certain commands being ran from people's accounts, that can cause spam, bandwidth theft, etc.)

I know this is a ridiculously old thread, but I've been searching for a while now to see what alternatives to "wget" exist; this forum was the first hit on Google for the terms "wget disabled". My upload speed is a pathetic 60kb/s, so it's really annoying when I need to upload something to the server (ie: installation file for a free game .. not warez), and can't even use wget. Is there anyway to have it re-enabled?

I also tried cURL (disabled) and GET (not installed).

If SH monitors SSH usage, then they'd know if I did something "undesirable" using wget, right?

You can download the wget binary and use it via your shell account.

How would I do that? I tried a few of the "standard" methods .. doesn't work.
