upgrades not available in fantastico

Okay, sorry to be a can of questions this week but trying to get this figured out. I have used Fantastico before and whenever there was an upgraded version to a script that was installed through fantastico I would find the upgrade in my cPanel. Until now, I just installed "phpAdsNew" on my site using the Fantastico interface, now as soon as it was installed I log in and receive this message:

Quote:
It is highly recommended to install this update as soon as possible, because it contains a number of security fixes. The version of phpAdsNew which you are currently using might be vulnerable to certain attacks and is probably not secure. For more information about upgrading please read the documentation which is included in the files below.

You are currently using phpAdsNew 2.0
It tells me that this version is available:
Quote:
phpAdsNew 2.0.4-pr2
This release mainly fixes some recently discovered vulnerabilities (XSS and full path disclosures). All users are advised to upgrade as soon as possible!
A similar incident happened with my coppermine album on another site a couple of weeks ago and again there was no update in fantastico, I had a few problems updating this manually and really liked the fantastico way of updating (didn't screw things up- unlike me!)

So is the upgrading feature no longer available in cpanel or is it disabled, and why would I not get the most recent version on a new install to begin with?

Any help, would be sweet,
Thanks all,
lady M

It really is better for you to learn how to do updates manually. It is very possible for Fantastico to wipe out your site during an update. Usually most updates only require you to add some code or change it. All changes can be done using NotePad or any text editor (except MS Word). Just remember to back up your files and database BEFORE attempting ANY backup. You will be surprised on how much you can actually do yourself with a little time and patience! Plus Fantastico doesn't update its software as quickly as the software author might...

Not the answer you wanted but it is something to keep in mind.

I usually do my updates myself, but with so many different websites and software runnning on all it is sometimes simpler to do it automatically, handling ten or so scripts a day makes it difficult to stay up on all the different items that need to be upgraded for different types of software and this keeps me from having to spend 1/2 hour or so refreshing on each specific manual for each item.
Of course, my client was not as patient on getting this one in and I tried it quickly, needed a little help on getting the database info, contacted support as I was instructed in upgrade documentation and I get this answer from support:

Quote:
Greetings,

I am sorry but we don't support the installing of software that isn't done through our scripts. You will need to see what the manual says about upgrading and transferring the database from an older version.

Regards,
Sam
hmmmm, installed through Fantastico?, needed critical upgrade, tried manually, needed:

Database hostname :

Database port number:

Database username :

Database password :

Database name :

I got the reply from sam above!

All of that information can be found in a config file. Usually in it's in config.inc.php or something similar. Look around for it/

I took it from config and put it in there, that is the problem, it says I already have one there instead of upgrading it like it should.
That is why i contacted support, anyway Sam must be busy, after I explained it came from fantastico he forwarded it to admin.
I only thought it should have been that easy...
Thanks guys, you are all wonderful!!

http://netenberg.com/fantastico_scripts.php

That list is the latest version available in Fantastico. If you find that your server doesn't have those versions, please contact the helpdesk.

Aric...so are you saying if we don't have ALL the scripts in the list you provided we should contact support? Because I am missing some of the scripts in that list...like Typo3, viper gustbook, and many more...
