Movign a site over..
Hello,
How could i move my whole site to my own server? it's on a free cpanel account. Do i change the dns for my domain after i move the site? Any info step by step guide or anything would be helpful. I got a reply on another developers site, but though i'd ask here also, Do i make the full backup or will the home directory and data base backup be enough to grab everything? i only have 1 db to backup. Here's the reply i got at nukies, but i'm not sure what to do, i created an accoutn for myself in whm, and then i make the backups of my site i want to move over? not sure what after that, i haven't set the dns so how would i log in to the account i created to upload my files to? Bit confules. ----------------------------------------------- In phpmyadmin - take a backup of all the DB tables From hosts control panel - take a backup of "home area" or download all files from public_html to your PC On your "server" do the reverse - make sure you have something that will run Nuke - EasyPHP is good for this... import all tables into DB - place all files into "root" folder. Yes you will need to update the DNS entry for the Domain to point to the new IP of the server. Last edited by sound; April 18th, 2005 at 5:02 PM.. |

in order to upload the files, you can always connect using your IP address.

if you have a reseller account or a dedicated account with cPanel, yes you can. you can add an account and login to it using the IP address and username.
i don't understand what you mean by logging into a 'package'. can you explain a little more?

I created a package, haven't used any domain name to create an account,
Then i saved the database and home directory of the host i want to move. I don't know what i'm thinking, i supose i can use the domain name that i want to move, to create an account for, even though it's still hosted else where. |
