Oh boy, here comes the Xoops/Mambo debate... *ducks and covers*

Install Xoops and Mambo and play around with each and see which you like better and go with that one. It's really 6 on one, half-dozen on the other.

Since Xoops is down (see http://xoops.org for info), give Mambo a try first and once Xoops is back up try it as well. They're both good but only you can decide what's best for your site needs.

I use Mambo but not because I thought it was a better choice, I just liked the name.

What I have done is create a subdomain where I can test these out now and see if I like them. That way I don't have to clutter the main domain area. When I find one I like I'll remove the test and go for it with my main sites.

What do you mean, how do you create it? What exactly are you trying to create? With xoops, you do it with blocks and modules that are in the system. With mambo, you do it with a chisel and hammer (kidding...i'm a xoops user :P).

Just put whatever welcome content you want into a block, then put that block on the front page.
