Xoops 2.2 Released

From Xoops.org

Quote:
The XOOPS Core Development Team is very happy to announce the release of XOOPS 2.2

After an intense development and testing period, we are now ready to release the final version of XOOPS 2.2 boasting a completely new set of themes, theming of the administration area and dynamic user profile fields.

As with all new features, the flexibility and usage of the new features will not show properly until more people are using them, so you may experience limitations that you did not expect.

We have already started the planning of XOOPS 2.4, so be comfortable knowing that whatever concerns that arise in the next weeks will be taken into consideration when developing XOOPS 2.4 - and of course, really big issues will be dealt with as swiftly as possible.

The Dev Wiki already has a list of all changes to the language constants in the core and will be expanded to hold explanations for how to

- Use dynamic user profile fields
- Theme the administration area
- Use configuration categories
- Use page awareness
and more.
Please note, that if you are already using 2.2, there is a fix for it that will patch an exploit that was missed.

For more information, including downloading the latest version of Xoops, click here.

np Thanks for the heads up from John. I wouldn't have even noticed it was finally fully released yet if he hadn't mentioned it.

I didn't announce it here because I don't want to recommend new users starting with 2.2 yet. There are still issues to be worked out. A new user won't know what is a problem and what isn't. All they'll know is that it's not working. I want new people to have a good first experience.

New people should still use 2.0.13. It is tried and true. Experienced users should probably set up a test site before upgrading a production site.

I used to upgrade everything immediately. Now I'm starting to sound like my boss.

Due to John;s wisdom in this I think what I will do is toss one of each 2.0.13 & 2.2 in a test page of their own and start playing with them maybe this weekend.

I do like the look and feel of Xoops. Just have not wrapped my head around just what I want to do with it.

But so far the pages up are basically place holders till I can figure out just what look I want to express my interest and such on the web.

And then to rebuild my forum in a few weeks too. A rebirth. Better than ever before on my site nd not on some free page with loads of in your face adds. I should have waited. But i jumped the gun and got in a hurry about 8 weeks before I decided to get a Hosted site. Duh that was a mistake. I have to learn some patients.

With Xoops that patients is a must.

Personally, I'm using 2.0.13 until I have a chance to fully test 2.2. And a mod for Invision Board is available.
