I could kiss you! It worked! I almost feel like I'm getting somewhere now.

Uh, before you run screaming into the night, can you tell me how to change the tabs this theme seems to have into English? :-)

cool beans. It's a good feeling to make something start working. Currently, I'm trying to remotely get my home server working right, since Pass5 is being weird again. Everytime I get something going right, it's that same good feeling.

Any other questions, feel free to ask.

Ok, got what's probably an easy one for you. it was mentioned earlier you could install tinyd more than once. is there a way to rename tinyd in the main menu to something else?
Oh and (sorry) since my little pical is viewable in the right column, must I have the pcal in the main menu? I didn't find out where to remove things from the main menu.
I looked everywhere I think, and can't find a way to change the words on the tabs to english (default language is set to english) or remove the tabs so I'm thinking I may have to scrap using this theme. I really like the look of the theme, but can take or leave the tabs in english, definitely do without them in another language.
I'm having a little bit of fun, now that I can see something forming at the site.
Thanks again.

Hmm. To clone the TinyD module, I think you have to put more than one instance of it in the xoops modules file, but with consecutive numbers. I've never tried to do it, so I'm not totally sure.

No, you just have it in the right column, that's all. You can't include things in the main menu block unless you change the block code itself. I've never done that either. I'd rather just make my own version of the main menu with html links.

To change the words in the main menu, just change the module's name in the module install/uninstall section.

Looks like David dropped offline, so I'll take a turn.

To have more than 1 copy of TinyD, you upload multiple copies (not the common folder, you only need one of those), giving each one a different name (i.e. tinyd, tinyd0, tinyd1, tinyd2, etc...). They then are installed as different modules. This is not a common characteristic of xoops modules. GI-Joe wrote to be that way.

The reason that you might want more than one copy is because in the current version of xoops, most options are set at a module level (for instance, I want my weather block to be visible with these modules). If you didn't want something to be displayed on every TinyD page, you could install a 2nd copy, and control it separately. Another example would be the "Print" and "Email a Friend" options. You may want it on some pages but not others. Since it's set at the module level and not the page level, separate copies lets you have finer control over the looks of different pages.

Now for the main menu. I never use it. Why? For the same reason you just asked about. It loads every module in it automatically. That may be fine for some, but I don't care for it. There are menu modules available. One that comes to mind is called "Multi-menu" I believe. At one point, I think you could have 4 different menus, though now you may be able to have more. Personally, I just create a block and put the menus in using good old fashioned html. Another option would be to use a javascript menu. You can see an example on one of my sites at www.dconline.org. I've never managed to finish that site, and have now decided to scrap it and start over. It was my first xoops site and I think I could do better and would rather start over than try to fix what's there.

If you decide to use another menu, just turn off the default one so that it's not visible. Anything in that menu is html, so if you decide to make your own, just cut and paste what you want from the default one, and leave the rest out.

What you'll need to see on the theme is whether the words on the tabs are part of the graphic, or are generated by the theme. If it's part of the tab graphic, then hopefully they gave you a blank tab that you can use to create English tabs. If the tab graphic is blank, then inside your theme folder for the theme in question, take a look at the index.html file. You should find the tab names in there. Just change the names to English.

I'll see if I can dig up some sites for xoops themes. There are several really good ones out there.

Precisely. I'll play around with the tinyd modules some more.
Question, which weather module are you using?
And one more on news. My news feeds aren't working, but my itunes feed is. Any thoughts on what I'm doing wrong with the newsfeeds? example - msn I'm using http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3032092/
Thanks.

Don't have a clue on the newsfeeds. When I click on one of your headlines, I'm told that I don't have permission.

As for the weather, I may have to rethink my strategy. It will still work, but now they're asking that you do something different than what I'm doing. Hmm...

The main weather page you see is from Accuweather. It's free weather for your website. The link is http://netweather.accuweather.com/ad...her_index.asp? . I am using the Platinum version. You get to pick the weather location, and choose the colors. Once you walk through the little wizard, it shows you what it will look like. It will then give you the code to paste in your website. I just paste everything into a TinyD page.

The issue has to do with the little block that links to it. That comes from http://www.wunderground.com/. You put in your zipcode and get your local weather. On that page, there will be an option to add weather to your website. They call it a weather sticker. You just take their code and paste it into your site. There were only 2 lines of code. The first was the link to the sticker. The second was a link to their site, which had more ads than weather. I just replaced the second link to the one for the TinyD page with the Accuweather.

Tonight, I noticed that they expressly ask you to link to their site. Guess my game is up.

Soon as I get time, I'll come up with a workaround. You can still do what I did, it's just that they ask you not to now. That request wasn't there when I did it.

Now, I'll see about putting together a list of sites with themes.

Here are a few sites that offer themes. I'm sure there are more, but this should get you started. Some sites are not English, but you can usually find what you are looking for.

http://www.xoops.org/modules/library/viewcat.php?cid=1 This is the theme repository for xoops.org. Unfortunately, they were recently hacked (apache was hacked, not xoops, but the end result was the same), and the repository still isn't back to its former glory. Still, a good place to start.

http://www.xoops.org.es/decorados/mo...l_lang=english Not a place to download themes, but a good way to see them.

http://mywebresource.com/

http://demo.2bcool.net/?easiestml_lang=en The author says for noncommercial use, and to inquire for commercial terms.

http://kavaxtreme.radiantchristians.com/ Only 1 theme (several variations), but I like it.

http://xoopsfactory.de/modules/file_download/ Uses CSS heavily. Good stuff.

http://art-nomad.net/modules/mydownl...wcat.php?cid=2

www.xoopsturkiye.com/x/BlueWXeng.rar Nice theme, but the site isn't in English. Giving you a link to the English version of the theme.

http://bassmanthemes.com/modules/news/

http://xoops.org.cn/modules/wfdownlo...?cid=6&lid=293 Unless you read Chinese, better just download it and try it out.

http://www.linesweb.com/ This site appears to be down, but when it was up, they had some awesome themes. Including the link in case they come back up.

http://xoops.imagocn.net/modules/news/ Free for noncommercial use.

Enjoy!!

I've been checking out some themes from xoops page. (take a peek and see - www.cartenterprises.com) Dave would be so pleased to know I can do it all by myself now.
I even found a weather block. I'm not thrilled with it, but it'll do for the moment until I can take a look at the way you mentioned.
Thanks again to both of you.
Good night.
