WordPress Dot Com
Ok, if this doesn't solidify my love of WordPress with everyone, nothing will.
Ancyru inquired earlier this week about why my webby changed...and here's the big reason - my blog has moved to the, uhm, really beta world of WordPress.com. I can't tell you too much about it because quite frankly I don't know much about it. (Ahh, I'm so out of the loop.) Anyway, what I do know is that it professes to become a place where people will be able to start up a WordPress blog of their own sans the trouble of installing, upgrading or even hosting. Say goodbye to the pain and hassle of Fantastico nightmares and hello to community based blogging with WordPress. Hee. My first observations basically consist of being completely overwhelmed, the version on wp.com is sort of MU and 1.6 mushed together - neither of which I've used. (I took a break from alpha/beta playing whilest I work on my site.) But it's very spiffy to look at. You even get fancy permalinks by default and your choice of some defualt themes that aren't too shabby. There's a lot of new and different features, including a very buggy WYSIWYG editor for posts and pages - and the really spiffy addition of moving different features. No literally, you can click and drag, say the categories selection and move it down on your screen...and it'll remember if you did that and if it's been toggled shut, too. Currently you can't add plugins or edit templates or probably ten million other things (like fix the timestamp, darn it), but you do get 100mb of file storage/uploading space and you can upload a few different kinds of image, music and movie files. Pretty nifty. Aside from moving my blog to the new address, I'll definitely be keeping anyone curious updated on the status of this. Oh, and if you want an invite, head over here and sign up. I don't know when they'll be sending out invites or anything...but I'm sure it'll be before too long. 'Kay anyway...I'll go be excited elsewhere. Ta! |

Wow! That is looking very cool so I just signed up as well.
The only thing that would stop me from using it would be the fact I don't get to use my own domain.

Mmm, yeah...I'm going to miss my purple-lilacs domain - currently it's forwarding to the wp.com addy, but it'll be odd to not use it.
I'm hoping eventually we can start importing old entries or something, I don't really love the idea of manually putting 3000+ old posts on there! Hehe. Which I probably wouldn't do anyway, but the option to would be nice. |

I wish the world of MovableType was like that.
But Wordpress is so lovely. I welcome it to live on our servers. So easy to install. So painless to run. Le sigh. |

I know I carry the WP flag around here like it's the god and goddess of blogdom (and a lot of that is personal bias), but it really is that and a bag of chips. I've never had a problem with it as much as any of the other programs I've used or seen people suffer with. |
