AJAX is in most cases completely independant from the server software. It can run with XML, RoR, PHP, ASP, etc... It's a client scripting language within JavaScript using some other technologies here and there. So yeah, AJAX is compatible with Surpass servers.

I discovered AJAX by visiting a popular vbulletin board, that had AJAX implemented in it's recent update.

I was stunned, really.. Just look at this flash demo from vbulletin: http://files.vbulletin.com/3.5/ajax.html

Inline editing of posts is possible, and quick reply works without having to reload the thread!

I plan to code a similar script for my own website. It's mainly a collection of video, flash and picture-posts. Not having to reload the page after an edit or submit of a comment would be a very nice feature!

Another script I plan to use (a basic version is already in place (and working ) for my moderators), is some sort of Quick Find for member-profiles. Just by typing in part of a nickname, a list of similar/suggested nicknames would be shown inline and updated in realtime everytime you press a key.

The possibilities are endless. And appearantly this technology was already available for years...

I was bored two nights ago and whipped this up: real-time spell checking!. Still in the infancy stages (you have to type kind of slowly, especially if you're on dialup), but whatever.

Apparently, all I see is a text box with no button.

It doesn't appear to do anything for me. I put in part of a word, nothing happens. I hit enter, nothing happens. If I hit CTRL+ALT+TAB+9, a walrus jumps out of my closet, but only if that specific combo happens.

The space bar is the 'trigger.' Hence, you've gotta type a sentence. As covered, it's very buggy still; I was just bored.
