Err...?

Ok.. I just lost a long post asking how to improve Wordpress. Apparently it didn't like my criticisms against it and cleared out everything when I decided to add my list of tags....

In short... I have to use a Wordpress blog setup by my instructors for a weekly post on the past week. Just saying stuff like what I learned, what I'm think about the class so far, stuff like that... Anyhow, so far I've decided I hate the software, mainly interface flaws (it's not very usable), so I want to get the low down on what it does, how to make it better and then find out what HTML tags I can actually use for formatting. Even though it's "standards compliant" they only listed a handful of tags that don't go near covering the real amount of what you might need. Does it support any of the following?
  • p
  • h1
  • h2
  • abbr
  • ac
  • q
  • span
  • div
  • dl/dt/dd
  • cite
  • var
  • samp
Trust me, I will be needing these...

Any other tips, pointers, etc... will be appreciated.

Edit: Also, can I create a template entry so that I don't have to retype the same thing for the entry each week?

Ok, I'm confused.

Do you mean in general? Or in a post? I guess it doesn't matter because yes you can use any and all HTML in a post - you can run PHP from a post/page too, but in 1.5.x you need to install a plugin for that. (It's part of the core of 1.6 last I played with it.) If you want to use CSS styling, you can input it right in the HTML or stick it in your stylesheet for your theme (or well I use a stylesheet outside my theme but I like to know how much I've editted stuff, so I name my CSS by date...tmi).

Template entry? What do you mean exactly...preinserted text?

Ahh, ok, I can use any HTML tags, that's good.

Yes, I want it so that I can just click something similar to most word processors where you open a template and when you save it, you're not overwriting, but creating a new entry (keeping the template for further use). But yeah, I basically want it so that there's preinserted text.

I should point out that it is installed on a server that I have no access to, so I can't upload files, themes or plugins.

*chews lip*

Well in this case I think the closest I can suggest is using a draft post - or save a private post with said 'template' and then just use what's there in a new post. You'd have to C&P and click around a bit, but there is no way I personally know of to preinsert data into a nonexistant post. Not without editting either the core itself or putting it into a theme, which may or may not even suit what you need.
