template help needed!

Hi guys...

I need help with a template - or modifying one.

I've won a small job with a not for profit (I did their original site using html and frontpage - it sux, but it worked...

You can see what I have HERE

It's not bad, but the "artist" on their board sent THIS

Can anyone help me turn the template I'm using into what they're looking for?
I can put the banner on, of course... it's the menu / three column thing that has me...

John

Keeping in mind that I've never used Mambo before (installed it once and couldn't figure out how to make the lights come on), can you take another template that has 3 columns and "borrow" the code? I "Frankenstein" xoops themes all the time. I would think it should work the same way in Mambo (Joomla!).

As for the menu, I like your's better, but if you really need to change it, my guess is that it's going to involve modifying the template and probably some css changes, but it doesn't look like it should be too rough (keeping mind my original disclaimer).

Good luck.

John

I'm going to keep the menu. The template is probably modifyable by dropping the border images... but the third column could be a beee-atch...

Mambo templates are pretty "simple" to modify... I'm just so crushed for time (I'm working - scheduled - 47 hours next week, not counting driving too and from...)

I suggest scrapping the current design and doing something similar to a certain CSS Zen Garden submission.

That design would actually be relatively easy to code with semantic XHTML/CSS, but getting it to work with a pre-built CMS is a whole other story.

Certainly NOT that one! What a noisy and ugly design. Looks like something a kid clipped together in front page.

I have 2 requirements.
1 - it has to be IE and FF compatible.
2 - I need someone to do it fast.

Up for the challenge Haugland?

Oh, but come on, it's retro 1996!

I would be up to the challenge, but I've got about 3,000 words (over a few documents), a 30 minute presentation and a video storyboard to finish in the next week and a half -- plus whatever else the instructors assign before then. But if you email me two images: the header image and the background image, I might find myself cramped on one of the projects and willing to do it (meaning the CSS/XHTML, I've never dealt with third-party CMS's before). I can already pretty much see how the code is going to look.

The existing template is pretty damn 'easy'.
Give me an email address and I'll shoot you a ZIP file.

It consists of:
index.php
template css file
images

Someone who's GOOD with CSS and PHP should be able to convert from what I have to what they want (leaving the menu alone - minus the 'frame') in a few hours at most. Me? It would take me the better part of a weekend...

mikehaugland.ca works for me.

I believe I'm good with CSS and PHP.. far from "all-knowing" but I have the feeling that the average CSS coder couldn't explain specificity, inheritance or the cascade without looking them up.

I can't promise when I'll get the file back to you, but there's a likelihood of tonight depending on how quickly I feel like throwing my marketing book at the wall.

I'll be happy to help you with any marketing concepts you have trouble with!

Ask your marketing professor for the real "market reason" that Betamax lost to VHS.
