Webdevelopment and Sharing Access?? How do I do it? (noob)
Ok, so the situation is that a guy is developing a website for me
As per the plan, the website will be database-driven by CMS (mambo). He has the flash-template ready. he says that he needs my site's login id and pw to install the script and link it to mambo. What am I missing here? Is this normal to share the login id and password with the web-designer/developer? If not, what is the alternative? How can I allow him to install the website on the server without compromising security. Any help on this issue will be appreciated. Kindly feel free to let me know if you need more information about this issue from my end to better advise me. ((PLease go slow... I am using the noob antennae.)) thanks! Well, I've never installed Mambo, but I ould think he shouldn't need the login or password if you create the database and user and all that for him and give him the information.
Might want to move this to the Mambo board for more precise help. |

I'm not a Mambo user either but ceo's reply sounds right. If you install the necessary backend files, all you should have to do is create an FTP account for him (with his own user name and password) and he can then upload the rest.

I've done that before. I setup a generic password then once the work was done I changed the psw.

As I said above, I would have him tell you what needs to be done in cPanel (I assume database creation) and do that yourself and give him the necessary information he may need. If he has to upload stuff, you can create an account for him that you would later delete..or upload the stuff yourself. It's your discretion. But I'm sure I'm not alone in highly suggesting you not give anyone access to your main account password and login. |

It comes down to trust. If you hired him and are paying him and he has a track record as a designer I wouldn't worry about it. I don't know of a way of installing mambo without having your log in data. Check out the mambo forums maybe there is a way around this for you.
