FTP accounts
Greetings,
My community search has not found my answer, so I am going to post this question about FTP accounts. My site eliteenclosure Here is what I would like to accomplish. I have a few select customers that are wanting to upload files to my server at surpass so we can share project and design information. I have tried various php upload scripts but the files are usually too large (20-200MB) and the customer will be disconnected quite often. Is there any way to setup an ftp access (multiple users) where a customer would log into my ftp and only see one select folder where they could upload the file and delete the file or make additional files (permissions). I have tried to setup ftp accounts in Cpanel but I noticed full access to the entire ftp area. I would only like access to a single folder per account. I think I remember the older versions of Cpanel making this readily available? Is this possible with surpass and Cpanel X without the customer using a third-party ftp program such as cute ftp? Thanks for the great service! |

Yes to both questions. When you set up FTP accounts, you specify exactly what each user has access to, and you can set this to their own personal folder or any folder in the site. When properly set up, most thrid party FTP applications should work with the FTP accounts you create.

Ok
I guess now would be a time to ask for a tutorial on how to accomplish this in Cpanel. I can add users but I cannot setup sub-folders for each user to have access to without showing all folders in the ftp area. Is there a tutorial on how to setup accounts/users to access single folders? thanks! |

It's really easy. I wouldn't recommend this as a permanent solution but if you're sure it's what you want to do, then when you create the FTP account in cPanel (under the FTP manager), it should fill in the Directory (what the user has access to) automatically. If you leave this as is, a folder is automatically created (bearing the user name you selected) and that is the only folder the user can access.
Hope that helps. If not, cPanel has all the documentation you could ever want at http://www.cpanel.net.

It could be something is wrong with the settings in your FTP program. Once you create an FTP account, access should be instant. Make sure you put the path to the folder in the FTP program and you may need to play around with the various authentication options.

make sure that you are trying to log in with the username format of ftpuser
domain.comAlso try having the domain as both your server IP, and your actual domain name if that doesn't work.
