Anyone using wp-shortstat plugin

wp-shortstat is a plugin for WordPress, it tracks hits, users, search terms, etc.

I used to have it working flawlessly until last week; my pages started to take a lot of time to load. After doing a lot of research and experimentation I found that if I turn out wp-shortstats on the plugins section, everything gets back to normal.

I'm using the latest version and previous versions (1.2 and 1.3 which is what you download now if you click on the download link that says v.1.2)

Anyone can confirm this behaviour?

Are you referring to just the admin panel or your entire site?

I briefly installed this and didn't note any issues. The stats page loaded a bit slower than other parts of my admin panel, but I didn't notice any issues with my actual site. You may want to contact the plugin owner and troubleshoot this with him/her, I would hope they would be familiar enough with the plugin to try and help you pinpoint your issue.

The main index.php
Admin interface was fine. It could be related to wp-shortstat not monitoring admin pages. I'm going to contact the author to see what can be done.

Problem solved

Reading the blog entry at Jeff Minard's site I found a comment with the solution to my problem.

With my current version (1.3) I commented out line 99 and now everything is back to normal.

The problem (confirmed from my Network Tools section at cPanel) is that pass28 can't reach the site to track the country of origin of the visitors. That's why the page basically hangs up while the function tries to resolve the IP. The domain is hostip.info and on server pass28 it gets redirected to 192.168.0.1

Hope somebody finds this fix useful.

THAT is useful. I've used (and still use) wordpress for blogging and content management, and the shortstat was a good way of tracking the different places people were coming from and whatnot (basically was just interesting) but it would hang up.

One question: has anyone been using this plugin and then it suddenly stop working? I've had two instances of this.

Just curious.
