You will likely be warned by support about it before they just take your account away, so this way you can do something about it first. If the chat program causes enough trouble though, the site gets suspended to stop the trouble from happening.

if you use AJAX to create an refreshing DIV, in which users can put information, would it be considered a chatbox or a shoutbox?
ATM. the div refreshes every 1,5 seconds |

I'm disappointed that FLASHCHAT is not allowed here.

I read through the pages and I'm not sure if I understand it right.
Like recently, I intergrated my forum with MK Portal a CMS, and it has a chat module in it. It uses IRC chat and when I went to the IRC home page, it has to be installed and whatnot on my computer and with the chat module, it just simply connects to the chat on my computer. So, is it okay to have that on my site? Currently the chat is disabled so it's not running.

Except that while the server is located elsewhere, running a web based irc client is still quite resource intensive. I dont allow them on my servers either, except for the sites of a few long-time friends. but even so, i did a test, and me using their online client does increase the server load enough that i would not want a few dozen people using it at a given time.

No one has answered the question about Shoutboxes yet.
Are they allowed?

What shoutbox do you plan on using? Some don't refresh at all, while others do it every 5-30 seconds. |

I am using SMO Ajax Shout! It's a Joomla component/module.
It doesn't automatically refresh at all. If the user wishes to refresh the shoutbox, he/she has to click on the refresh button manually. So I think I'm safe. By the way, my site is already up and running. ![]()
