web accessible ftp account?

Hi there,

So I know how to make new FTP accounts that other users can access with say, WS_FTP.

I'm wondering how to set up an FTP site similar to what my friend has where he has full folders, and you enter ftp://ftp.webaddress.com and you just drag and drop the folders from the ftp site. It prompts you for a username and password intially.

Is this possible to do with surpass? If so, how? Everytime i try and enter my address with the ftp it says 421 unable to set up anonymous secure FTP..

I have searched the boards everywhere for this, but only find questions on how to make the more simple ftp accounts..thanks for the help

I've tried this, but I end up having problems doing so because of windows apparently.

I don't know how your friend does it, but when I want to access my FTP that way I type in: ftp://usernamedomainname.com - it usually brings up a pop-up box to put your username and password in there.

hmmm, well i can access my entire site by doing that, but I don't want people to be able to ftp to my whole domain and have access to all the files, just a particular folder..

is that possible?

Create an FTP account in cPanel for that folder, and then use that to log in.

Do like Rai said, but make sure you are logging in to it correctly.

You have to use a path such as ftp://usernamesiteaddress.com

Your login name would be usernamesiteaddress

That should work. I just tried doing that and it logged me in fine.

I, too, have been able to log in with my cpanel username that gives access to all of the folders, but when I make an individual ftp account for one folder, the username and password (i have checked and reset the password to make sure its correct) combo won't work. I feel so close since I can get what I want by using my username, but my friends won't work. (thanks for all the responses by the way)
