Problem FTP'ing

Hi - I have a client who made the mistake of obtaining their domain name at the same place they hosted with. Unlike Surpass *smile*, their host is a big pain in the behind and we're having problems getting the domain transferred. Heck, we're even having trouble getting the DNS servers pointed to Surpass. Which leads us to my problem: I have my temporary web path with Surpass. Can I FTP to this so that everything is ready to go when (and if *grin*) everything gets transferred? I haven't been able to find a way using WS_FTP, and I must say I've been pretty creative in my attempts. Thanks for any help! Nanci

Where it asks you for the host/ip/domain, just put in your server IP address (can be foind out by hitting windows key+r , type in cmd , hit enter , then type in ping www.domain.com ). That should bring you to the account if it is already set up on the server

Surpass probably gave you an e-mail with the IP of your server. This is what I got (in April 2004):

Quote:
Temporary Web Path: http://66.194.238.158/~syberda/
(until your domain name resolves, use this link to access your site)
Note: If your username has a number in it, the username you specified upon sign up was too short and we had to add more characters.
If your username has been cut off due to too many letters and you would prefer to change it to something else, please reply to this email with your request.

IP: 66.194.238.158

Username: xxx

Password: xxx
You should be able to FTP to that IP address with the user/pass they gave you.

I think DewKnight thought that it's working already.

I tried DewKnight's advice, but it wasn't quite right. Thank you though *smile* But, you have hit the nail on the head. I have tried exactly that. I type in the temporary address that they have given me (http://72.29.83.173/~lathrop/) and I get nowhere. I can access cPanel through this, but can't seem to upload anything. Any other thoughts?

in your FTP program:

Host Address = 72.29.83.173

username = lathrop

password = your password

make sure anonymous is unchecked

This can remain permanent or later you can change the IP # to ftp.yourdomain.com

You can also login to your control panel at http://72.29.83.173:2082

and use the file manager to upload your files.

You can also upload by using filemanage in cpanel.
