HELP!
I'm new to Wordpress, and this is a big change since I've been using MT since forever.
In Wordpress, I'm not able to edit the templates, it just says "if this file was writable you could edit" but I don't know anything about this. I need my own personal layout for my site, not that ugly templates WP provides. If anyone knows how to edit those templates, please help! (I already checked the WP site, and they don't say anything about it, not anything I could find anyway..) thanx for your time. |

I am also new to wordpress but when I was exploring wp information, I found this site as a decent reference to wp css and templates.
I can't help you directly but perhaps you can find some answers there.

I believe WordPress has one of the easiest and simple theme systems.
First, go here and find a theme that you most closely want for your site and download it. http://themes.wordpress.net/ The same page will have directions on where to put the folder on your site and installation steps in the admin panel. Use a text editor on your computer to edit your templates and you don't have to worry about writeable folders.

See that's the problem, I don't want to use their themes. I want to use a layout I already made, and just incorporate the blog codes into that.
Is there no way I could do that with Wordpress? I already tried CMODing the files, to both 666 & 777 and I still get that same statement at the bottom, "if this file was writable you could edit" |

My suggestion was/is, that you find one that most resembles what you have and tear it apart and see what is used for the fields in that position, etc., and make your own from that pattern.

Correct, but when you say HTML editor, use it in text only mode and not WYSIWYG.
