MediaWiki

I'm wondering if anyone here has an experience managing a "MediaWiki" installation? It's the same thing that runs the imfamous Wikipedia. And well, I'm just trying to figure out heads from tails on how to manage it. Editing the pages is easy enough, but right now, I'm basically trying to figure out how to change the links in the navigation pane. If anyone has an experience and maybe some hints on where I should go, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Bar that, is there another good wiki script? I looked at the ones in Fantastico and I don't like them... and well, doing a search turns about about a million different options, so I turn to your expert opinion.

And you know, I'm not sure if there is a "right" section of the forum to put this in... maybe we could get a general section under "recommended applications" for stuff like this? Or... not, I'm just thinking outloud.

Well, it only took reading the same page about 8 times to figure out my main question (how to edit the navigation bar)... but the second parts still stand... any general hints on managing a MediaWiki, or a better Wiki application to use...

MediaWiki is probably one of the better wiki's out there, at least from my experience. I've installed it several times... and once even crashed the database for an install. Only thing is that usually someone else was given the task to actually get it ready for use, so I never got around to learning the configuration or any of the admin part.

I'll ask James next time he's around if he remembers.

Installing it was easy enough, at least once I read the instructions (I was missing a '-' first time around, and was wondering why it was failing).

Figuring out how to make it ready for use... a little harder. The thing is, I'm not going to be doing most of the content, but I need to set up the backend before I can let anyone else come in and edit... So far I've figured out how to edit the nav bar, and fix the URLs so they look better (I didn't like the /index.php/Title_name that was the default.)

Whoo, and before I hit send, I figured out how to change my main page from the stupid default "Main_page"... They make it so easy to do, but so difficult to figure out where you have to go.

I really wanna keep working on this, but I need to be up at 6am tomorrow (every day?) and so sleep is probably neccessary.
