You mean:
something.mainsite.com without cpanel? If you have subdomains on your main site, just make them with your main sites cpanel instead of whm. |

i was thinking of the same thing. heh. but i guess that's not really 'possible' if they need to upload/edit/download stuff through ftp.

ask support to create a A address for the sub.maindomain.com to the reseller shared ip
then create a new account in WHM using sub.maindomain.com it will work and be seperate from the main domain |

you CAN create an account using a subdomain without any problems.
I have it set up so I can offer a basic free hosting package, and with that package they can use their own domain, or they may use a subdomain, this gives them the whole "package" of cpanel, and full control over their site. |
