Thats the part I need the wildcard for and the reason I will have to call on support to help me with, but before I do that, I want to fully understand what it is I am asking them to do for me in case of any troubles. |

It's quite alright! MU itself is (relatively) new and can be a bit tricky to set up under certain conditions (such as a shared hosting environment)
This is the only thread I've found on the topic (here at surmunity), so I'm sure it will become a source of info for other users as they come along. In fact the mu.wordpress.org forum is riddled with the exact same questions I have. I find the open forums there to be very "loud on the eyes" so I decided to start here. I certainly have no issue with reviving an old topic. Beter to keep things alive then scatter everything with new topics all over the place. :-) Besides, anything I find out will be a help to others here, something I very much advocate. This thread could very well save someone a lot of time by not having to go over to the mu forums to sift through the vast amount of posts. Still highly recommended though. lol, and I agree with your previous post. In fact, I came straight to the forum here, when my test account didn't create the sub-domain, and did a global search for "wpmu" the moment I found out I was going to have to deal with httpd.conf I sure knew what the accronym was! ClairI was wondering how you felt about MU after you installed it. You have an extensive background with computers in general. Any thoughts? Oh, and to answer your original question that started this post, your on a reseller account, so you shouldn't have issue at all with subdomain creation; at least that's what I gather from all the reading I've done so far. Your in a much more enviable position than I when it comes to your hosting solution ;-) Well, I'm off for the moment. I'll have to deal with my subdomain wildcard issue a bit later; my DNS is on-again off-again with propagation, so that leaves me in the dark with development testing. ( I failed to mention it's on a newly purchased domain, but more on that later ;-)) |

Actually, it looks really powerful and is worthy of consideration, except for one glaring reason. I just read the licencing terms and FAQs Quote:
To bad the licencing terms won't allow me to do what I want, it really does look like a great package! |

I take that back, as impressive as the package itself looks, the licencing is just to restrictive. I can't help it. The fact that the licence forces me to display and provide a link to their product, even after a fully licenced purchase, (which is well over $250 after currency exchange) goes against everything I stand for.
Call it a hardline stance, but I will never be "told" what to have as content on my site. Not when I've paid for the technology running behind it. I'll give credit when and where it's due and in my own way. Case in point: Surmunity runs on vBulletin, a commercial product. I see no forced links anywhere. However, that goes far beyond the scope of this topic and I would rather keep it on track, sorry. Thanks for the suggestion though! |

np, i didn't read that part... i will most likely link to it just because i want to by a part of their community, but I can understand why someone wouldn't want to.

I actually hadn't gone forward with it. I wanted to wait until a full release, which is out now. I had completely forgotten about it. Going to check out one of the links you posted. Have YOU had any luck? Clair |
