Well Filezilla is showing user owning all in there but that one file for some reason.
In the other 2 forum directories the file owner is user. So don't get what the heck is going on here.

I've looked at that SSH reminds me of the command prompt in windows. If it is a like critter I don't think it is a wise place for a Dawg like me to be digging around in.

Guess I'll jest have to leave it be and maybe the next forum update will over write and fix it and then maybe I can try to inbed this blasted mod.

Once a file has an ownership it takes a root password to change it, and an update will not change it, nor uploading over it will not make the change.

However, you can download it (so you have a copy) and then delete it from the server. Upon uploading it again via FTP logged in as user, you will have the correct ownership and permission.

This is annoying the heck out of me. Issues showed up last Monday after updating and adding that phpsuexec. And this is convincing me more that that is my problem.

I had no issues working with files or anything else before hand.

And that is a main file for the forum and a live forum so can't very well go deleting it.
Deleting phpsuexec sounds safer. That is my busiest forum and don't want to risk screwing that up.

You have been given a simple, safe, solution and an explanation. Your bull-headed ness is not a result of your medical condition. You exploit sympathy. Good-Day.

Now why the hell are you bringing my medical and sympathy into this. I don't ask for or need sympathy. I knew the odds of getting screwd up in the service and if I had it to do over again heck yea I'd go for even more gung ho! I made it black and white clear why I even mentioned that so step off that!

I'm just trying to understand this crap for it is making any logical since to me. I'm frustrated already and don't need attitude to piss me off more.

I'm very bull headed and very proud of that. Told it was a trait my grandfather had so honored when told that.

Cowboy gave you a simple solution.

The biggest problem when working with PHPSUEXEC is you can't do it all from root, unless you want to get intimate with the chown command set...

Download the file, delete it, and re-upload it from filezilla logged in as the correct user. That ought to apply the correct ownership and permissions to the file in question, thus alleviating your errors.

Simple solution yes but to tell a person to delete a file on a live forum? I was sitting here thinking yea fix the file and break the forum. Cowboy may know what he is doing. Me half the time I am not sure! And cowboy bullheaded or not I'm not the type to dive in I need to understand at least partly what the heck I'm doing first.

And then to bring something not relivant to my query in. Not cool. What was that?

Went to another forum and that owner I know and he uses SMF so got the rundown on what to do. All of what Cowboy said but with the safety net stuck in there of putting the forum into maintance mode first so nothing is lost in transistion.

Did all that and now that weird file is "user" owned. Noticed all the backups were "nobody" owned too. Was told to delete them all and make new ones that would be "user" owned.

Linux and Apache make my head

Ahh, well, the maintanence mode... I forgot that. In fact, my site is never busy enough for anyone to notice that I took it down! <GRIN>
